POWERUp Delivers Shot in the Arm to IBM i by Alex Woodie
In spite of not being in the public cloud (not yet at least), new, or "sexy," the IBM i platform has seen significant growth over the past few quarters. Off the heels of the IBM i 7.4 announcement this spring, the POWERUp conference gave the platform another well needed shot in the arm. At the opening ceremonies IBM's Vice President for Power Systems, Steve Sibley revealed that IBM i revenues have been profitable since the fourth quarter of 2017. "We've actually seen six straight quarters of growth on the IBM i platform itself," he said. And with Power9 roll out complete and 7.4 set to debut in June, it is not out of the realm to say that the IBM i platform will show a profit for seven or even eight straight quarters.
Innovation was also a big highlight at this year's POWERUp conference including a runner up award for Profound Logic customer Ryder Systems! They used our software to help modernize their IBM i system from the ground up!
People Don't Trust AI. We Need to Change That by Susannah Shattuck
Most people do not trust AI enough to put it into production in their business. A recent study from The Economist found that 94% of executives think that utilizing AI would help them solve strategic challenges to their business, but the MIT Sloan Management Review found that only 18% of companies are embarrassing AI and an integral part of their day to day business. Thus the problem: people don't trust AI. But why? Fear of bias data, lack of expandability, and a gap in skills all contribute to the hesitation when adopting AI.
This lack of trust in AI systems stems from a more significant problem that needs to be solved. The capabilities of AI are advancing faster than most businesses abilities to manage the risks that come from AI. The good news is it isn't too late. AI hasn't passed the threshold of complete mistrust, and the technology community is discussing the issue of mistrust before it becomes out of hand.
