Mayo Clinic Finds IBM Watson Increases Enrollment of Clinic Trials by Laura Lovett
Recently the Mayo Clinic released the results of their newest study that showed a huge 80% increase in enrollment of clinic trials for breast cancer. These enrollments were done using IBM's Watson for clinical trials matching system, a system that helps match patients with clinical trials that could help them deal with their diagnosis.
CIO of the Mayo Clinic, Christopher Ross, was quoted as saying, “Watson is able to give us faster, better matching of patients to potential clinical trials that our oncologists wouldn’t have otherwise been able to see — and I sit with our oncologists who work on this kind of thing. “[The oncologist's] day, every day, is to sit with stage four breast cancer patients who have no hope and I don’t know how she does it. But she’s excited about that work because of the true potential to get better results from those patients every day.”
