I received a call from my boss saying, "Cindy, tomorrow we'll be participating in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. Bring extra clothes and a towel."
My reaction? My company is awesome!
For those of you who have been M.I.A. from social media, the Ice Bucket Challenge raises awareness for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease -- a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord.
Individuals who participate in the challenge are usually nominated by someone who has completed the event. These nominees have two options: 1) record a video of themselves pouring a bucket of ice over their heads and post it to social media challenging friends to raise awareness, in addition to contributing $10 to the cause , or 2) donate $100 to the ALS Association, a non-profit organization dedicated to fighting ALS.
At Profound Logic, we like to challenge the status quo. We did both. Our two offices, located in Ohio and California, along with Scott Klement in Wisconsin and Brian May in Mississippi, participated in the event. All together, we donated $400 to the cause!
Our CEO Alex Roytman has issued a personal challenge to the leaders of our IBM i community: Steve Will, Alison Butteril, Tim Rowe, Jon Paris and Trevor Perry.
We challenge the IBM i community to stand in solidarity for finding a cure for ALS. When you rise to the challenge, use the following hashtags: #IceBucketChallenge, #ALSIceBucketChallenge, and #StrikeOutALS. We'll be waiting patiently to see your videos. Let's unite together as an IBM i community to drive change.
